I think the most important thing is choosing the right kind of course. Audio courses can be a great way to learn the French language, but you must choose the right one which has all the correct qualities.

You probably want an online course which includes some grammar and flash cards in addition to just audio. Visual learning aids are very effective.

I think that your idea of getting a French pen pal is an excellent one. You can use social networks like Facebook to easily make French speaking friends to practice with.

I’d also recommend watching French language films and listening to French music!

hey there are lots of free language sites on the web too many for me to remember but i can refer you to a site which will list them. go to pick the brain an click on the blogs about language. they will list about thirty sites. i would also recommend that you check the audio options on your tv provider . whether its cable or satelite they will probably play lots of tv programs in french. same thing with dvds. watch the movies with french subtitles to get used to the language an then you can listen to the french language tracks. i would also suggest checking your local library. we used to have rosetta stone but now have a free program called mango.

Learning French through audio is a very nice idea. Not only it will teach you the language but also the right pronunciation.
