How long would it take to learn french fluently?
Planning on moving to Quebec in 4-5 years and I know that the main language is french.
I want to be very fluent and be able to read, write, say, and understand french so I won’t be some lost american tourist.
How long would it take me to learn this?
Let’s say, if, I studied hard almost everyday?
And what’s the BEST way to learn french?
(just curious)

my friend went to france for a foreign exchange program for half a year. prior to that he had only taken the normal french class at school. by the time he came back, he spoke french fluently! so im guessing it wouldn’t take that long (probably a year or so) as long as you are surrounded by french speaking people and really try to learn the language.
A year is reasonable, though some people manage to learn it even faster. The best advice I can give you is that you just speak it every day and try to mimic mentally how you hear those around you. French is a beautiful language. Good luck.
When you get to Quebec, your French skills will most probably heighten. That’s usually what happens when you are living in a French- speaking area. Until then, I would sign up for a beginner’s French class at your local night school or community college. They usually teach you the fundamentals and how to have a basic French conversation. It would be wise to buy a French-English dictionary. Also, if you have some free time on your hands, pick up a French movie and try watching it without subtitles. You’d be surprised how much of it you will understand. Good luck.
I tried the Rosetta Stone software. Awesome! Check it out!
The best way to learn is to really involve yourself and be surrounded by it (reading, hearing, speaking). Even if you’re shy to speak it, you HAVE to to get better. When you live in the country, you learn it soo much better also, so that would be my biggest suggestion to learn quickly. Otherwise, study every day every aspect — speaking, listening, reading, writing — and focus. It helps to put stickers on objects with the french equivalent. For example, I’d put a polish sticker on my cat saying “kot” or on the door saying “drzwi” or whatever. Good luck!
I have an Australian friend who came here to Paris and was speaking fluent French in about 14 months. He still makes small grammatical errors but it is so slight no one really bothers to correct him.
So yes a year is a very reasonable amount of time as long as you stay dedicated.
